COLORS HALLOWEEN 2022
Comment to this post to receive a piece of BROWN candy.

I'm a teacher, and October is a really, really rough time of year for us - kids are usually pretty antsy, and its a long stretch to election day weekend where we get a break. So, for the serotonin, tell me a story about a teacher you had that meant a lot to you and I'll reward you for it!

Can't think of any? That makes me sad but that's okay - comment an activity or something that you enjoyed doing in school with your trick or treat and I'll pass a candy along for that, too. ♥

I had a creative writing teacher whose class I loved - he encouraged us to write anything we wanted, even my weird fanfic that wasn't that good yet, and had a fantastic sense of humor and was proud of all his students, no matter their skill level. I loved his class so much that I took it three times, even though I could only get credits for it once.

really loved my kindergarten teacher, i have pictures of her and still remember her very clearly. i got her again as my third grade teacher and i was super happy - she was always really nice, encouraging, and made teaching fun and touched my life enough that i still remember her fondly! i even got her birthday gifts because she was great lol - my mom got her a purse and she went crazy for it and started taking it to school

my high school english/drama teacher! he was so chill and easygoing, but still made sure the work got done. he was really good at making things fun for the class, and didn't care so much about some of the arbitrary things that are just accepted in classrooms. like he let us sit on the floor if we wanted and class activities allowed for it, and let us listen to music with headphones in during reading time and stuff like that. he actually ended up becoming a coworker of mine too because he was sound crew for the same professional theater i ended up working at (i was lighting crew). he also taught technical theater classes in community college, and i took his stage lighting class too! it was as a favor because he needed one more student or else the class would be canceled, but i still ended up learning a bit despite it being an industry i'd been working in for years at that point.

i remember having a writing teacher in honors ap english that was really good at encouraging us even though most of the times we didn't feel like we could be any better than we were. i don't remember her name but i remember exactly what she looked like down to her glasses, and she was always the sweetest, kindest teacher i'll ever remember. never yelled at us, never got mad or cross when we were acting up. i wish i remembered her name ;w;

Trick or Treat!!

Nothing like thinking back to college/high school to remind you how old you are, oh god. BUT UH I'm not sure. There were a few standout teachers who were awesome.

Middle school history teacher, Mr. Williams, who treated us like human beings with real lives and problems by providing real lessons with solutions while in a truly terrible school (juggling work and personal life, exercising patience and respect, how to perform like a professional).

I forget his name but my high school math teacher who went above and beyond the mandated courses to teach us things we'd actually use right out of school (how to balance a check book, how to shop for actual deals/sales, how to file our taxes, how to calculate percentages on the spot, (to never go to Disney World because their water bottles costed him $5 a pop, that was a great rant)).

In college, my poli-sci professor, Dr. Ordez, taught us how to field sources of information and how to properly watch/read the news. Looking further than soundbites and images, not just listening to news anchors and headlines, that sort of thing.

Idk there was a lot. Mr. Vercher, middle school band, took us to Six Flags in Houston that one time mostly out of his own pay. Mrs. Cole, fourth grade teacher, helped us through not only dealing with 9/11 but also the sudden death of one of our classmates who was in a car accident. Mr. Roy, high school chemistry, who was a bad diabetic but was also a fellow fan of M*A*S*H, so we bonded and he let me help him out during my off-hours what with grading papers and bringing him juices from the cafeteria. Another name forgotten but high school biology teacher swore us all to secrecy before taking a day to teach us about sex, how to have safe sex, different types of STDs/STIs, how to get tested, what pregnancy actually does to a body, etc. I even learned CPR from a math teacher because she was a part-time EMT.

Okay, this got long. Anyway, I definitely had amazing teachers/professors who actually taught us what they were supposed to. I also had terrible teachers/professors over the years. I guess these stand out to me most because they clearly cared about me and their other students, like they really wanted us to succeed in life and be (at the very least) decent human-beings who contributed to the world. Idk like. Caring that much isn't part of the job but they did it anyway and I still appreciate that from them.

So thanks for teaching. Good luck with the kids.

Trick or Treat~!

I had a lot of excellent teachers. I was lucky that I lived in a small town, so everyone knew everyone. But really, it was my 1st grade teacher because she was good when I was a wee penguin, but even as I grew up she was still a good influence in my life. To the point that I'm not a huge kids person?

I volunteered in a 1st grade classroom, lol.

I actually had fun with a final research essay in my English class my first year of college. We literally could choose anything, and I went with an essay about the deep connections throughout JJR Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I got an A too, so that was awesome. <3 Trick or Treat~

I had this very awesome Arts teacher in Primary School who knew my big brother and always made sure to greet me and encourage me. It made my last three years of primary school fun and it was a class I looked forward to. I think I was also in one her her extra classess, too.

Another one was my High School English teacher who was just an awesome guy.

Trick or Treat!

My geometry teacher was really nice! He let anyone who needed extra help come to his class during lunchtime so he could help us focus on what we weren't understanding in a smaller group. I know now that there's a lot of people like me who excelled at algebra but struggled with geometry, I really appreciated being able to get help with it outside of class. I'd like to think that was why I was, somehow, able to get the extra credit proof correct on one of the tests.

Trick or Treat~!

Most of my different languages teachers have been amazing! And I've studied many way back in school but I've also studied them in my free time, lol, I should get back to some of them.

Anyway! I wasn't all that into the whole studying thing in high school but I ALWAYS went to my Spanish classes! The teacher was chill, easygoing, fun, friendly and told us many random stories and facts and jokes between teaching and I really enjoyed his classes. He was an excellent teacher, I really learned a lot of Spanish in those classes and it's one of my favorite languages ever besides Italian. And that's already two of some of those languages, that are really rusty from me these days but I really hope to study them again in some kind of classes someday later again, lol, I love learning different languages :'D

Trick or treat!

I've been lucky enough to have quite a few teachers that were really special to me. One of them that really stands out, though, was my high school psychology teacher. She was just the funniest and kindest person ever, and really cared about all of her students. I had her class in the period just before lunch, and one day this girl was having a really rough time, so after class when everyone cleared out about 5-6 of us stayed behind in the classroom and sat on the floor and had a big emotional cry-pile type thing for the next hour while our teacher kept an eye on us. She always had our best interests at heart and you could really tell. I went out to lunch with her a few times after I graduated and we had her over for dinner at our house too!

Also, thanks for all you do as a teacher, and good luck with this busy season! Sending you lots of good energy to help you get through it! <3

one of my all time favourite teachers was my year level coordinator who was very kind to me as i had a lot of very rough family stuff going on in my last year of high school. sometimes instead of going to class i was allowed to just hang out in the office with him and the other teachers, and they'd all give me tea and biscuits. one time i accidentally left two of my textbooks on the public bus, and so he drove to the depot and picked them up for me the next day! i'll never forget that.

i actually bumped into him and his wife at the grocery store a couple years ago, it was so lovely to let him know that things are going pretty well for me now, and really thank him for what a support he was! teachers like that you never forget.

man, when i was in fourth grade my teacher was SUCH a positive influence on me, she was really encouraging when it came to my reading and writing and like, she even read my horribly embarrassing fanfiction that i gave her, and like... she was so nice about it, lmfsdf. she told me that i could turn it into an actual book someday and i never forgot that.

my other favorite teacher was my middle school math teacher who was this big, terrifying skin and bones man with a HUGE mustache who compared himself to darth vader, and sang that one rammstein song to us when he was trying to pump us up. he always acted like he was a mean person but he genuinely cared about all of us, and i remember a lot of times where when i was frustrated to the point of tears about math homework he'd shake my shoulder gently and be like "hey, don't cry, it's only math" which doesn't seem very comforting but, you know. it meant something, lol

i've had so many great influences with teachers. i went to catholic schools through high school, so the really good ones stood out. but my absolute favorite teacher was a high school science teacher who taught me botany and zoology. he made me appreciate the weird and fun parts in nature. i just distinctly remember classes with him and there's not a lot like that.

also art teachers and english teachers were always good to me - especially through jr high (grades 7-8). they really encouraged my creativity! they encouraged me to write and draw and do what i love.

trick or treat! i had a teacher that I had for I think 4th grade and then 8th grade. 4th grade we held a baby shower for him and the other teachers as they were both having children with their seperate spouses. in 8th grade, he ran a whatchamacallit where you could take high school classes for credit. this ended up leading to me graduating high school a year early after being inspired to continue taking summer courses. I don't live in that state anymore, but my grandma works near the school and he still remembers me, she updates him about what im doing whenever they see each other!

The other day I went back to a school I attended previously. I found out that a teacher who had previously been an assistant teacher was now a lead teacher and running a philosophy club! "It's for kids to discuss the kinds of questions that adults would discuss late at night over a bottle of wine..." I still have the copy he gave me of a book with some plays by Oscar Wilde.

Happy Halloween, trick or treat please.

Trick or Treat! Um, this story is a bit gross? I tried to keep the gory details to a minimum but be forewarned.

When I was in the 7th grade I had a really sweet art teacher. I'm not a good artist by any means, but I wasn't very well liked by my peers and she was kind to me. Including the time I, ahem, "lost my breakfast" outside of her room and she immediately grabbed a stool and sat over it greeting the students walking in so they wouldn't be disgusted/make fun of me while I got myself cleaned up and to the office to go home. The matter of fact immediacy in how she took care of it was kinder to me personally than fretting over me and it still makes me smile a little to think of. Thanks Ms. [REDACTED]!

By the way, I hope your kids don't give you too much trouble this year!

Trick or treat!! I think off the top of my head, my Latin teacher - she had a keyboard and would make us sing songs she wrote to the tune of well known songs to help us memorize key facts about grammar and history for our tests, she was SO enthusiastic, I still remember some of those songs to this day.

I still remember my HS math teacher. He played songs for us in class, but not just regular radio songs, it was hardcore sludge metal. We actually made music recommendations for each other and I got him an Isis shirt from a show I went to in Warsaw. Our band wrote four whole songs about him which documented his evolution from funny guy to a terrifying beast as we neared our final exams.

Its not that I didnt have good teachers, its just its been so long since i was in school and a lot of stuff went on during the same time haha, But I did have nice teachers for sure, especially in college. I think one I liked a lot was a professor when I did Holocaust studies (cheery topic, I know). He really was nice and knowlegeable, and it was his last year teaching and you often would have a lot of people coming out from other towns and citys to see his lectures. I remember during the first weeks of his class, I asked if we will be talking about any other genocides, ect. And he planned for our final papers to be on either the holocaust or other genocide, and I told him I planned to go hard on the Bosnian Genocide. When that time came around, he gave me a few specific books and resources from his own collection to keep on the topic. Still have them now, and any of the books he wrote that I bought duing his semester too hehe. I got high marks for that class for sure!

my AP history teachers in 11th and 12th grade were both really fun and I've always enjoyed history as a subject, so it's nice when you get good teachers for fun subjects. but more importantly the 11th grade APUSH teacher had been a contestant on Jeopardy once, so the rumor went, and in class we were always asking about it because he refused to give us details (except that he'd lost) and we couldn't find any evidence of the episode online (this was many years ago....). at the end of the school year he brought in a taped copy of his episode and we FINALLY got to watch him fail miserably as a contestant on Jeopardy sjsfskjdfhs
